What can I use my jar for?Azure Canning Company jars can be used for water-bath canning, high pressure canning, refrigeration, food storage, organization, crafts, decorating, gifting, tableware, and more. They are versatile, strong, and safe! Around our homes, we use them for just about everything you might imagine—drinking glasses, desk organization, holding toothbrushes, soap dispensers, spray bottles, spice jars, vases, pantry organization, gifts-in-a-jar, and so much more.

Can I put the jars in the freezer? Some canning jars can be used in the freezer, with care, depending on the contents. Because liquids expand when frozen, a sealed jar filled with liquid will often break during the freezing process. “Shouldered” jars, especially, are prone to breaking as the liquid expands against the shoulders during freezing. For these reasons, we generally do not recommend freezing liquids in most of our jars. We recommend using only straight-sided, wide-mouth jars in the freezer. To minimize the risk of breakage, leave generous headspace and leave the lids off or very loose during freezing, allowing air to escape and giving room for expansion. Once the contents are frozen, you can place the lids on and tighten them. Our straight-sided, wide-mouth pint jars (NF811 and NF018) and our straight-sided, wide-mouth pint-and-a-half jars (NF089 and NF824) are designed to withstand freezing, following the above precautions. Tip: Never expose glass to temperature extremes, but instead allow temperature changes to be gradual. For example, allow hot jars to cool at room temperature before placing in the freezer.
-
What's the temperature tolerance of these jars? Many of our jar styles exceeded the industry standard for thermal shock tolerance, demonstrating 10% greater strength than the leading competitor. Our quart-sized wide-mouth jars met the industry standard and equalled competitors. Our distinctive glass jars are exceptional for all types of canning, including high pressure canning! Tip: Never expose glass to temperature extremes, but instead allow temperature changes to be gradual.
-
Does the etched design cause food to stick to the inside of the jar?No. We’ve been canning a long time, so the jars were thoughtfully designed to feature “debossed” etching, meaning the design is recessed into the front surface of the glass. This ensures your labels will stick to the jar. Most jars are lettered with outward embossing, preventing labels from laying flat. The inner surface of all Azure Canning Co. jars is smooth, for easy cleaning.

What are the lids made of?Superb’s BPA-free, no-warp lids are made with five levels of corrosion protection and Blu-Seal™ Integrity to form the most reliable, longest lasting, airtight seal possible. The blue sealing area is made of a proprietary food-safe polymer, and this contact area is compatible with all standard canning jars. The lid seal gaskets are thicker, wider, and heavier than ordinary canning lids for a superb seal!
-
Can the lids be reused?Superb tells us, “An effective seal is essential to preventing food spoilage and contamination, so it is recommended that you don’t reuse canning lids. However, other components, such as the glass jar and the screw bands, can be reused as long as they are in good condition.” That said, we have customers who report that they successfully reuse lids multiple times, as long as care is taken not to bend or warp them when removing them from your jars.

The blue sealing area is made of a proprietary food-safe polymer, and this contact area is compatible with all standard canning jars. Why did you choose to partner with Superb? We partnered with Superb to fit our jars because they are the best lids money can buy! Superb’s BPA-free, no-warp lids are made with five levels of corrosion protection and Blu-Seal™ Integrity to form the most reliable, longest lasting, airtight seal possible. Their lids are safe for high pressure canning, and have passed rigorous testing by both internal and third-party laboratories. Superb lids are made in Sugarcreek, Ohio by a family with a long history (five generations!) of canning. In addition, our founder David Stelzer, met with Superb here at Azure, and then travelled to Ohio to visit them and tour their facility. David has gotten to know the faces behind Superb and was impressed with the integrity of their people and their business; it’s a partnership we feel good about!
